Oil Spill Preparedness & Response Training Course

Open to CCA Members and Qualified Government Officials

Overview
Offered since 1992, the course covers a broad range of response topics and activities including a review of response methods and technologies, field operation of CCA equipment, and a tabletop exercise for selecting response strategies and mobilizing equipment. The course uses the International Tanker Owners Pollution Federation's (ITOPF) Response to Marine Oil Spills textbook (available in English, French, and Spanish) and closely parallels the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Level II Model Training Course for Supervisors/On-scene Commanders. The notable distinction of the CCA course is extensive hands-on equipment operation and deployment. The course also provides U.S. OSHA HAZWOPER annual refresher and ICS-100 Level training, which are noted on the course completion certificate.

Objectives
The CCA course provides individuals at various levels of responsibility an understanding of spill response concepts and strategies, practical realities of response management and operations, and familiarization with a wide variety of response equipment. Participants are trained to assess a spill, and select appropriate response strategies, methods, and equipment. They are also trained to safely deploy, operate, supervise and maintain a wide variety of response equipment.

    CCA Government Training Sponsorship Program
CCA has initiated a very successful program to sponsor government representatives from countries in CCA's Area of interest to attend each Oil Spill Response Training Course. The individuals that are sponsored have been nominated because of their involvement in developing or maintaining a National Oil Spill Contingency Plan in their country or are key individuals in Environmental Protection. Selection of government representatives is from applications received from interested governmental agencies and from Member Company recommendations.

    Special Training Courses
Member sponsored training events are scheduled 3-6 months in advance. A full, weeklong course for up to 30 people in Fort Lauderdale, complete with two large field exercises can be arranged. Shorter duration courses can be tailored to a Member Company needs, both in Fort Lauderdale and at a Member's facility.

    Contractor Training
CCA conducts quarterly training of local response contractors in order to provide a cadre of 15-20 experienced oil spill technicians who can mobilize, deploy and operate CCA equipment. This initial surge capability provides experienced personnel who can operate the CCA equipment and train a Member companies personnel on the proper deployment and use of the response equipment that has been mobilized.
